This Prototype Showcase offers a glimpse into the prototyping portion of my career. I have many stories and photos to share. This page includes some of my favorites. Most of these prototypes are made with a combination of CNC machining and 3D printing processes. Hand finishing and surface treatments, such as painting, make or break the result. Whether the product data was provided by my customers or developed by me, every prototype had to be engineered for development to achieve the goal of the prototype.
The gallery of Cookware and Kitchen Tools showcases many prototypes that were developed to represent products in a realistic manner. Many of the prototypes are made from plastics and finished to represent metallic components. Clear items are made from clear acrylic.
The Garden Hose Reel project offered a great challenge in developing a prototype kit that would travel the country to show buyers various options for the product. I made a single frame on which various color and texture treatments could be represented. The prototype had to be flexible and easy to use to make the changes quickly in front of customers. The panels pop in and out of the frame using a custom made snap feature. The entire kit fits into 2' x 4' travel box so that it can be shipped safely using UPS or other carrier.
The Blood Pressure Monitor prototypes were built to represent different marketing campaigns. From one campaign to the next, the marketing responses were factored into different configurations which optimized changes in electronics technology.
Each model has an LCD screen that is static and represents how the working screen would appear. This brings a realism to the prototype that provides a more effective marketing tool than if they were left blank.
